Fun with Math!
1st stat category is average scoring margin in games won.
2nd stat category is average scoring margin in games lost.
3rd stat category is average points scored per game.
4th stat category is average points scored against per game.
Jimmy -
23.64
17.88
108.86
97.43
So Jimmy's wins were by an average margin of 23.64 points per game.
His losses were by 17.88 points per game.
He scored a very respectable 108.86 points per game.
And only faced 97.43 points per game.
Six teams had an average below 100 in points scored against. 4 of them made the playoffs.
John -
33.67
25.11
112.87
99.91
John was 2nd in the league in scoring and 6th in lowest points against.
Yeah, that's why he was 10-4 and the #1 seed.
LaRon -
26.19
18.41
101.25
94.58
LaRon was in much closer and lower scoring games.
Dustin -
38.76
25.14
109.91
99.11
Loss margin a lot closer than win margin. Dustin hammered some people.
Thomas -
25.28
25.48
100.29
107.65
Thomas was facing an uphill battle each week. He was 7 points behind before the games even started.
Pitch -
15.43
14.91
108.21
108.88
Amazing. Pitch was in close games all year. He was 5th in scoring average but 3rd in points against. And with those tight margins, that means the games were close.
Rick -
24.89
34.81
90.31
98.99
Rick didn't face particularly tough points against. He just could produce enough points for.
Ryan -
18.73
35.2
97.01
100.74
Close wins. Thumped when he lost.
AD -
44.05
33.46
118.37
108.23
Lots of ass whippings both ways. #1 in scoring but 4th in points against.
Ten teams averaged scoring over 100. 5 made the playoffs.
8 teams average over 105. 5 made the playoffs.
6 teams averaged over 108. 4 made the playoffs.
2 teams averaged over 110. Both made the playoffs.
So, you want to make the playoffs? Average 110+ in scoring.
Adrian -
21.8
33.77
98.58
94.13
Adrian made the playoffs and you see why. 98.58 is not great, but he faced less scoring.
94.13 was league best.
Alex -
22.49
34.52
84.23
102.46
Yeah those numbers equal a lot of losing
Beas -
20.83
32.22
106.01
103.9
These numbers, to me, would suggest a 6-8, 7-7, or 8-6 ball club. Beas outperformed that.
Chad -
31.38
30.21
108.44
111.7
Chad got thumped on. He did some thumping of his own, but it wasn't enough.
Chip -
28.87
25.87
89.77
100.06
We can see the story here as well. Closer games, but just behind too much in scoring.
Cow -
26.32
32.77
108.12
115.04
People ran through Brent like Crazy Rita's homemade bean dip. Brent was 6th in scoring but dead naked last in points scored against. 2nd place was Chad at 111.7
One of the takeaways for me was how big the margins are. We don't really have close games. Teams are winning or losing by fairly wide margins each week. Sure there are some close games, but far and away more games are what we might consider blowouts.
