Week 15 Preview - Championship Bracket

The Super 6.  Laron & Randy have secured 1st round byes.  They relax this week comforted with the knowledge that they can not be eliminated from the playoffs this week.  The Championship Bracket, it's where we all wanted to be week 15 when the season began.  These are the games we remember.  These are the games where glory is bestowed and teams are remembered, or ridiculed, for all time.

To the match-ups...

Week 15 Preview - Consolation Bracket

The 7th & 8th seeds have 1st round byes, Kurt & Chad.  The 10 seed, Pitch, plays the 11 seed, Cow.  The 9 seed, AD, plays the 12 seed, Chavez.  There is no glory in winning these games.  No one remembers them and very few care.  They are, however, games that are played and for some, like me, that's all that matters.

Regular Season League Player of the Year

Arian Foster

Selected with the eighth pick of the ninth round in this years draft, Foster has been consistent and dominant all year.

42, 15, 13, 33, 4, 27, 31, 35, 12, 28, 30, 24, 16

He is currently the highest scoring RB this year by 50 points.

Week 14 Player of the Week

Darren McFadden

123 rushing yards
2 rushing TDs
3 receptions
86 receiving yards
1 receiving TD

for 41 points

Week 13 Monday NIght

Matt (72) Vs Jimmy (146) Jimmy clinches (he can rest all his players next week)

Chad (129) Vs Laron (91) This win puts Chad in great shape for playoffs.  Still needs a win next week.

Kyle (117) Vs Pitch (107) Kyle is in the same spot as Chad.  Next week is huge.

Still pending...

Scoring info

Under the "League Scoring" tab, I've added a new sheet that calculates the average scores of each team for each different position.  It shows where each team is strong or weak compared to the averages of all teams.  For example, who knew that Kyle led the league in scoring from the Kicker position?  That's just weird and creepy.

Week 13 Preview

Laron and Randy have clinched playoff spots.  That's two down and four to go.  While Randy has clinched a playoff spot, he has not clinched his division.  Kurt and Dustin still have a shot at the division and/or a wild card spot.  Cow still has a shot at making the playoffs via the wild card.  While Jimmy hasnt mathematically clinched, he basically has, one more win will do it.  The tie between Chad & Kyle may potentially screw with the standings, ties usually do.  The tie basically could mean that 7-7 wont make the playoffs, in fact, i'm quite sure now that 7-7 wont make the playoffs, unless of course, Chad & Kyle both lose their final two games.  Frank Gore's injury was huge, as it gave Rick a huge lead, but I think the fight in the Texas Division is far from over.

On to the match-ups...

End of year award voting.

Ok, so I'm going to put up two polls, one for Manager of the Year and another for league Player of the Year.  We have two weeks left in the regular season, so you dont have/need to vote on them yet.  Deadline will be Midnight Monday the 13th.

Just as a frame of reference, I'm voting for a manager that drafted well, traded well, and acquired talent via free agency.  Someone who made tough decisions and came out the better for it.  Overall record and points scored will go into consideration, but not be the only criteria I use.  Basically, when one looks at all the teams and all that has transpired throughout the year, who's done the best job managing their team this year?

Same goes for Player of the year.  What player impacted their team's success?  Who was consistent?  Who had an outstanding year? It's not always the guy who scores the most points, I think, although it often has been.  Just a couple of thoughts to consider over the next few weeks.

Week 12 Player of the Week

Who is this guy?  Seriously, is this the same guy that started the season wearing #82 for the Kansas City Chiefs?

13 receptions
for 170 yards
and 3 touchdowns

adding up to 48 points

makes Dwayne Bowe the Player of the Week for week 12.

and just as a side note, since week 6, Bowe has scored 197 points.

Week 12 Monday Night Preview

The finals...

AD (79) Vs Matt (54) All I can say about this is... pathetic.

Pending Monday night...

Week 12 Preview - Divisional Play

The time has come. Non-divisional games have ended. The race for the playoffs truly begins. These next three weeks and then the playoffs are where true rivalries are born. These are the games that bring forth the bragging rights for years to come. These are the moments we remember. Here are the weeks that defeat crushes and victory exhorts.

Division Play

Week 11 Player of the Week

7 Receptions
152 Yards
3 Touchdowns

for 40 points

Extending Randy's winning streak to 7 games in the process, makes Greg Jennings the Player of the week.  Congratulations.

How about 3 Franchise Tags?

I've actually thought much about expanding the number of tags for each team. It would be nice on occasion to keep up to three players, maybe more. I believe that the franchise tag is one of the more exciting options we've added through the years. No doubt made Draft Day more intriguing. But what affect would such a change pose to the league? That’s the question we have to toil with when deciding any such question.

2010 - The Lord Walter Camp Division Cup

It is with great joy and honor we present this year’s best division award. It takes meticulous research and hours upon hours of careful calculation to determine the ultimate winner. Every detail must be thoroughly analyzed and evaluated to ensure the credibility, validity, and accuracy of the final conclusion and outcome. Using a strictly secret cipher, one division is selected from amongst its peers as the elite division of the year. The Division Cup is awarded to that division which separated itself and rose above the others declaring its supremacy.  Though the final results were extremely close between two contenders, one division did indeed set itself apart for the second year in a row.

So, without further ado, the winner of the 2010 Division Cup is…

Week 11 Preview

This is the last week for non-divisional regular season games.  The 2nd round of divisional games begins next week.

With the trade deadline come and gone, we now turn our focus squarely on the free agent pool, circling like sharks around a pool of blood.  Who will that player be that arises at the end of the season to lead a team to the championship?  Who will be the team that picks that player before anyone else can snag him?  With only four weeks left in the regular season, it is now crunch time.  Every loss spells certain doom, while every win gives hope for at least one more week.  Too dramatic? Yeah probably.

On to this weeks match-ups...

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Week 10 Player of the Week

20 of 28
333 Passing Yards
4 Passing Touchdowns
1 Sack
80 Rushing Yards
2 Rushing Touchdowns

For 65 points, good for a tie for second highest on the all-time list. (Brady 68 - 1st) Makes Vick the runaway (pun intended) winner of this weeks Player of the Week award.  Congrats, Mike Vick.  You did what you do.

Trading Post - Final Edition

In a year that has seen a record pace of waiver wire additions and trades, it appears the trade deadline will come and go with a whimper.

I expected for there to be multiple trades this week and especially these last final couple of days.  Nope, didn't happen.  Perhaps everyone has traded to the point where either they are satisfied or just don't have the assets it takes to initiate more trades.

Either way, the deadline has come and gone.  The Trading Post is now closed for business. (till August)

Thursday, November 11, 2010

BEWARE!!!

It's that time of year.  Thursday and Saturday night games.  Pay attention or they can pop up and bite you.

I just noticed there is a game tonight!

Baltimore Vs Atlanta tonight 7:00 PM

If you have players in these games, get them in or get them out.

Week 10 Preview

With nine weeks in the books, the playoff picture begins to become clearer.  There are still plenty of games left (5 regular season games) to go so teams have time to make up ground or lose position.  There are two more weeks of non-division games and then the 2nd round of division games begin.  Friday marks the trade deadline, so if a team is going to make any moves (via trade), they'd better get after it.  After Friday, the only way to improve a roster will be through the free agent market.  We all know how overly abundant the talent level is there.

On to this weeks previews...

Week 9 Player of the Week

Peyton Hillis

One of, if not the, suprise impact players of this season.  I mean, who saw this coming?

185 yards rushing, 2 rushing TDs, 3 receptions for 36 yards, and 1 fumble for a total of 33 points

Sunday, November 7, 2010

Monday Night Preview Week 9

The finals...

Rick (73) Vs Randy (121)  Rick falls to 5-4, Randy is an amazing 7-2 (get out of here)

Bang (63) Vs Kyle (142)  Yep, Bang Bowl 2010 was indeed a blowout

Still playing...

100 Greatest.

The NFL Network has released it's list for the 100 Greatest Players.  Inevitably, anytime a list comes out, debate ensues.  Suprisingly, to me anyway, Jerry Rice was named #1.  I'm actually ok with that.  He was a stud and no other WR can compete with him.  There are some interesting rankings throughout the list and the site has a "fans" list as well.

Check it out, I think it's pretty cool.

By the way, the guy pictured left, gets my vote for greatest all time.  For those too young to have seen him play, you missed out on something very special.

So who is your #1?

Week 8 Player of the Week

Congratulations, David Garrard.
17 completions
4 incompletions
260 passing yards
4 passing touchdowns
1 rushing touchdown
3 sacks
1 fumble
for a total of 42 points.
Totally destroyed the Cowboys, course, who hasn't lately?
Nice Start, Chado.

Trading Post

I think I missed a previous trade.

Pitch sent the Minnesota Defense to Jimmy for RB C.J. Spiller

That trade has been completed. We have a pending trade as well.

AD sends RB Ronnie Brown, RB Ricky Williams, and WR Wes Welker to Randy for RB Ryan Mathews and QB Michael Vick.

Just a reminder (again) the trade deadline is November 12th. That's next Friday.

Week 9 Preview

Week 9. We have two 6-2 teams, four 5-3 teams, five 4-4 teams, and everyone else scrambling to keep up. By no means is the race for the playoffs over, in truth, it's just getting started. With six regular season games (weeks) left, most everyone is still in the mix, even if it looks more daunting for some than others. Keep in mind, the trade deadline is less than 10 days from now. So for those hoping to make some last minute moves to improve their rosters, time is shortening.
On to the previews...

Hello Goodbye - Randy Moss

Vikings waive Randy Moss after giving up 3rd round pick for him. Wow. That didnt last long.

UPDATE: Randy Moss is now a Titan. Hello, Randy. Fire up the video, again.

Okie Basketball 7

Week 1 Review

Ad vs Raging Bulls

Ad starts off firing on all cylinders this year and is trying to win his 2nd Okie Championship, his 1st coming back in 2004. Ad had a great draft despite losing his hopes of getting KD35. Ad finished Runner-up in 05, and finished 3rd in 06,07. The Bulls, in the league since 04, has 1 title (08) 1 2nd place finish(04) and 2 bronze trophies (05,09).

Chavez vs Double Dribblers

This was a close one but Chavez pulled off the victory and has a nice start to the season. Chavez is trying to get back that mojo from last year when he won his 1st Okie title. He has finished 2nd once in 07 and has no Bronze trophies.

E vs Hash
Ewood defeats hash week 1. E played last year for the 1st time and made playoffs finishing 6th. He lost in the 1st round and is back to get revenge on the league. Hash has been in the league since 05 finishing 13th ,8th ,4th , 8th , 12th in that span. We will see if he makes any lineup changes this year, if not, he may lose every game.

Daddy Fat Sacks vs Southside Ballhugger

This one was very close until Saturday when the Ballhuggers turned it on. These 2 teams will be very good all year and could possibly meet in the playoffs. Daddy fat Sacks has been in the league since its inception (I want to see that movie) and has 1 championship (06), two 2nd place finishes 08,09 and a bronze in 04. Ballhuggers came into the league a year later and has 2 titles (05,07) a 2nd place finish in 06 and a bronze in 08.

That is your week 1 review. Good luck the rest of the season to all players and GO THUNDER!

Week 8 Monday Night Preview

Those that are final...

Rick (94) Vs Kurt (105) Rick goes to 5-3, and Kurt gets back to .500 at 4-4

and the rest...

Week 8 Preview.

Hello week 8 everybody. The first half of the regular season is over and done. Now it's on to the second half of the season and the race for playoff positioning begins. Teams in the lead are looking to stay there and we, that are behind, are looking to make a surge. Activity, as documented previously, is at an all time high. Trades and waiver wire aquistions continue at a feverous pace and I look for that to continue up to the trade deadline in two weeks.
But, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves - on to week 8

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Opening Night is tonight...

7:00 P.M. is tip-off.

Television - ESPN & Fox Oklahoma

If you are wondering where I'll be tonight, you have your answer.

Finally all the preseason hype can come to an end. All the MVP talk, playoff talk, and championship talk will hopefully take a back seat to just real games. Let's play the season first before we give out awards.

Tonight should be fun. The last game was a game 6 defeat to the eventual NBA champion Lakers and us fans cheered our players for giving us a great season. I look for the arena to be jumping.

*UPDATE* We kicked their ass.

One of my concerns...

with expansion was that the four new teams might have a hard time competing at first. They would not have the advantage of franchising players from last year's roster. They'd be starting from stratch and that would put them at a disadvantage right from the start, especially considering the deluted player pool that having 16 teams would create. It might take them some time to get used to the way we do the scoring, as we are different than most leagues in terms of scoring and roster positions. My concern was that if they fell behind they might become disinterested and we'd lose them the first year.

So, after 7 weeks... how are the rookies doing?

Well, they are a combined 17-11 with 14 100+ games. Three of the four currently lead their division and it is completely possible and probable that those three go on and make the playoffs. They have been active in trades and waiver wire acqusitions. They know what they are doing. So, dont be shocked, if come week 15, we see three of the six playoff spots occupied by these so called... rookies.

Monday, October 25, 2010

Thanks for play'n

The rookie Fullback missed a block on this play.
It's broken. Recovery time just reported, 8-10 weeks.
No need to go scrambling to the free agent pool looking for Kitna, I've had him on my roster for a couple of weeks now.

Week 7 - Player of the week.

Darren McFadden basically abused the Denver Broncos. At the end of this game, Denver players were calling him "Daddy". He simply made them his bitches.
165 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs, 2 receptions for 31 yards and 1 receiving TD for a total of 45 points.

Trading Post

Four new pending trades, as activity continues at a record pace.

Chavez sends RB Thomas Jones & TE Heath Miller to Thomas for RB Cedric Benson & TE Dustin Keller

Jimmy sends QB Chad Henne & WR Devonne Bess to Thomas for WR DeSean Jackson & RB C.J. Spiller

Dustin sends WR Jacoby Jones to Thomas for WR Malcom Floyd

AD sends TE Kellen Winslow to Kurt for RB Ronnie Brown

This is the first trade of the year for Chavez, It's Jimmy's 3rd, Kurt's 2nd, My 4th, Thomas's 4th, 5th, and 6th, and Dustin's 7th. Which, as we recently learned, is a record for most trades by a single team in a season.

*UPDATE* all trades completed

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Week 7 - Monday Night

Oddly, there is just one match-up that is final.

Chavez (149) Vs Laron (119) Talked the talk, walked the walk.

On to the rest of the league...

Friday, October 22, 2010

New Segment... Q&A.

Question: What's the all-time record for number of trades in a season?

Trading Post.

After learning of TE Finley's knee injury, Dustin has been burning up the trade talks attempting to acquire a high quality replacement. Look's like he has done it. If the trade makes it through the veto process, it will be Dustin's 6th and Randy's 2nd trade of the year.

Pending Trade: Dustin sends WR Marques Colston to Randy for TE Jason Witten.

Interesting inter-divisional trade, both teams are 4-2.

*UPDATE* Trade completed.

Score Index added...

I've added a score index to the league scoring link. It keeps track of scoring percentage (percent of the number of times our teams score a particular amount) and winning percentage (winning percentage of our teams when they score that particular amount). It's just another interesting (at least to some) statistic to look at.

*Spoiler* (Scoring 120-129 points does not necessarily get you a win.)

Note to the Experts

For my first article I would like to focus on something that everyone in this league can relate to (especially since we moved to a 16 man league). It is about the waiver wire tips that the so called “expert” fantasy writers and fantasy sites suggest. I personally read a lot of different sites just to keep up with the daily happenings of the league so that I may capitalize when an opportunity presents itself….at least that is the theory behind the action. So I really fuel their fire (but that’s a whole different article).

Chavez has written a new song...

Readers beware!

While we encourage creative expression, we recognize not everone's tastes are the same. Having said that, I haven't stopped laughing since I saw his new song. Is it vulgar and disgusting? Of course it is, Chavez wrote it.

That being the case...

okiesports records is (excited?) to introduce it's latest single:

Big Panties.

Okie Basketball

With the draft just 3 days away, I thought it would be cool to see some of the more impressive fantasy basketball players over the years. There is no real order other than leading off with the best player of all time:

Preview Week 7

Week 7, the new half-way point... mid-terms, if you will. No team is out of the playoff race yet, though 1-5 looks daunting to say the least. A comeback is not impossible, however, we've seen it before. We've also seen teams start off great and then hit a wall and miss the playoffs. It goes both ways. Weeks 4-10 are for the various bye weeks for the teams, we can tell because of all the scrambling going on... injuries arent helping either.

Let's check in on Division scoring...

Smashmouth - 2,224 pts and an overall record of 11-13
Run-N-Gun - 2,479 pts and an overall record of 11-13
West Coast - 2,593 pts and an overall record of 15-9
Texas - 2,400 pts and an overall record of 11-13

Appears West Coast is leading the way.

On to this weeks preview...(WARNING: there is some foul language)

Week 6 - Player of the Week...

Dwayne Bowe had a breakout week...

6 receptions for 108 yards and 2 TDs scoring 28 points.

Do those numbers blow you away? Well, they're pretty damn good. Considering that Bowe was the main reason Cow won and busted his losing streak in week 6, Bowe was, no doubt, the player of the week.

Congratulations again.

Week 6 - Monday Night Preview

AD (136) Vs Pitch (149) - Great for Pitch, sucks for me
Thomas (100) Vs Cow (111) - 1st win of the year has to feel great
Chavez (116) Vs Kurt (72) - Chavez cruises, Kurts qb troubles continue

Those that are still playing...

Rick (81) Vs Dustin (98) - Rick has Marcedes Lewis and Titans DEF, Dustin is finished but has 17 point lead
Chad (104) Vs Bang (79) - Chad is finished but leads by 25, Bang has wrs Sims-Walker and Britt
Kyle (57) Vs Jimmy (136) - Kyle has Jones-Drew and K Bironas, Jimmy is finished but leads by 79

What happens when Cow wins?

For those who dont know, Cow is one of the more popular teams of our league world wide, so when his team ends a horrible streak, it's party time.

So what happend?

You're gonna go far, Cow...

IT'S OVER! STREAK ENDED!

Trading Post is still active...

There have been 9 trades so far. So yes, very active year to this point. I wonder if trade activity has been, and will continue to be, spurred on by the number of teams and lack of viable free agents in the free agent pool. If so, that's an unexpected and unintended, yet exciting and satisfying, consequence of expanding the league.
Pending Trade - Jimmy sends Steve Smith WR NYG to Chad for Felix Jones RB DAL
Again, I wont discuss the wisdom here (thank you President Obama) but that's what the comments section is for.

Week 5 - Player of the Week...

Malcom Floyd

8 receptions for 213 yards and a touchdown equals 35 fantasy points and player of the week honors for week 5.

For Highlights,

Current Career Wins list...

For those who may be wondering, here is the career wins list, updated to this week.

Week 6 Preview

EARTHQUAKE EDITION: Apparently there was a 4.5 earthquake this morning... I was up, and didnt feel a damn thing. My first earthquake and didnt feel anything.

Also, the Chile rescue: The news coverage is cracking me up. They are trying to make everything such a big deal. I know whats going on is tense, but come on news coverage... you're wearing me out. Good to see those guys making it out ok. one other thing, if you're not from Chile, you dont have to pronounce it like they do. Just say Chile, like the rest of us.

On to football,

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

Congrats, Los Rojos...

It took 141 games, a winning percentage of .567, to get career win #80.
First win - Week 1, 2002 (141-85) Vs Kyle. In fact, Rojo won his first 6 starts, beginning 2002 6-0.
First Playoff win - Week 17, 2002 (75-45) Vs Cow. Unfortunately he had lost week 16 that year to Chavez.
Championship win - Week 17, 2005 (130-130) Vs Dustin tie breaker 9-5 touchdowns scored. This was a thriller, as you can tell.
2nd Championship win - Week 17, 2007 (136-92) Vs Kyle.
Most wins in a season - 12, and that's been each of the last three seasons (07, 08, 09) - very few teams have had multiple 10+ win seasons, much less having 3 straight.
since 2007 - 39-17 for a .696 winning percentage. Pretty good.
Correction: Rojo had 11 wins in 08. So thats 12 in 2007, 11 in 2008, and 12 in 2009.

Sunday, October 10, 2010

Week 5 - Monday Night

***Finals***
AD Vs Chad (125-108) Start Felix Jones instead of Manningham (who scored 0) and Chad still losses, but only by 2.
Rick Vs Cow (118-77) Not another player gone for the season?!... That's snake bit. Personally, I'm saddened. I enjoyed seeing Clayton having success, especially with Sam as his QB.
***Monday Night***
Thomas Vs Dustin (97-113) Thomas has TE Dustin Keller... Dustin is finished, but has a 16 point lead.
Matt Vs Kyle (61-130) Matt has two players, Adrian Peterson & Jerricho Cotchery... Kyle is finished, but has a 69 point lead.
Chavez Vs Randy (80-74) Chavez is finished, but has a 6 point lead... Randy has Santonio Holmes.
Bang Vs Laron (69-108) Bang has the Vikings DEF... Laron has the Jets DEF and a 39 point lead.
Pitch Vs Jimmy (107-82) Pitch is finished, but has a 25 point lead... Jimmy has newly acquired Randy Moss.
Kurt Vs Rojo (67-100) Kurt is finished and down by 33 points... Rojo has Favre & Tomlinson still left to go.

Chouteau Trading Post - 1st Edition

Holy Cow!!! The doors are open for business. Three trades are pending as of this moment.

Trade #1 - (Cow) Andre Johnson & Jerome Harrison for (AD) Eddie Royal & Dwayne Bowe

Trade #2 - (Pitch) Randy Moss & Percy Harvin for (Jimmy) Ray Rice & Mike Williams (TB)

Trade #3 - (Cow) Greg Jennings & Santonio Holmes for (Randy) Larry Fitzgerald (Matt Cassel dropped)

I'll let you all decide for yourself concerning the values of the trades. But, I think it can be said, week 5 has kicked off with a bang.

For anyone who may not be aware, for trades to go through for Sunday's game, they must be accepted by Friday night. They'll be pending for one full day, Saturday. Waiver wire time for players dropped is two full days.

*** UPDATE ***

Trade #1, 2, and 3 are completed.
